Israel, the Nation.......the blossoming fig tree.
(Hosea 9:10; Joel 1:7; Matthew 24:32;)

Re-established on the 14th May 1948, represents a most significant fulfillment of Bible prophecy.
Heralding the potential for the further fulfillment of...

(...Matt.6:33; Mark 14:25; Luke14:15; Luke21:31; Luke22:16; Luke22:18;
John3:3; Acts 14:22; Rom.14:17; Gal. 5:21; 2Thes.1.5 etc.)

The Diaspora...

And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? Verily I say unto you. There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Matthew 24. 1-2

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Luke 21.24

Following the Death, & Resurrection & Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the birth of the Christian Church the Jewish people went on to be dispersed to the four corners of the globe. This event known as the diaspora followed the Romans sacking of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. , under Emperor Titus.

Fulfilling the prophecy:

And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Matthew 24:2

Throughout the course of the diaspora the Jews encountered the most appalling levels of anti-Semitism and persecution. None so horrendous as that perpetrated by the German military under the leadership of Adolf Hitler.
With the general backing of the German churches approximately 6,000,000 Jews met their deaths in the many concentration camps in what has been generally referred to as the holocaust.

Undoubtedly one of the darkest periods in mankind’s chequered history to date. The attempt by Hitler to wipe out the Jews, also intended to destroy the credibility of the Christian church. The victims of the holocaust included some Christians, some, now well known names, e.g. Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Maximilian Kolbe

Websters Encyclopedia defines anti-Semitism & attributes it largely to the European Christian Church over the last two thousand years.

This is a damning indictment on an institution initially founded on...
the Great Commandments...
i.e. To love the Lord thy God and to love your neighbour as yourself.

Clearly the Church’s failure to preserve & encourage an attitude of love & compassion, for ALL mankind, throughout the age has left a legacy obviously demanding much prayer & repentance!

"Mans inhumanity to man makes countless thousands mourn."
Robert Burns

The following quote from Ezekiel, although often tending to suffer at the hands of those who seek for only an allegorical or symbolic interpretation, has some commentators convinced that the Prophet Ezekiel was transported 2500 years into the future to witness the horror of the holocaust, (1933-1945).
It was only three years later that Israel was re-established as a nation!

The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones, And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry. And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest. Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

Ezekiel 37:1-5

The regathering of the descendants of Abraham back to the very land from which they had been dispersed 1900 years later should, in itself, be regarded as a modern day miracle. The fact that the Old Testament prophets spoke of this regathering and its significance should be of particular interest to the student of bible prophecy. Consider the various prophecies fulfilled by the re-establishment Israel as a nation on 14th May 1948. Consider also the fact that an extinct language, Hebrew, has been reinstated, and an obsolete currency the Shekel is now back in circulation. Looking back to the centuries immediately prior to the nation of Israel being re-established it is interesting to note the various accounts of a number of explorers to the area. Without exception the opinion was one of regarding the country which we now refer to as Israel as one of the least desirable of habitats.

Consider that in 1610 George Sandys wrote...

"the land was bare of trees, the country is a vast empty ruin".

From the accounts written in the 1800’s of Mark Twain in Innocents Abroad :

"Where prosperity had reigned, and fallen, where glory has flamed, and gone out; where beauty has dwelt, and passed away; where gladness was, and sorrow is; where the pomp of life has been, and silence and death brood in its high places - there this reptile makes his home and mocks at human vanity".

Also, in 1877, Colonel C. R. Condor wrote:

"Palestine is empty. The population is not large enough to till the land".

The regathering of Israel defies the accepted knowledge of Anthropology, it is completely illogical and entirely miraculous to see an element of the human race to disperse to the four corners of the earth and after a period of 1900 years to return and establish a unique Nation and to convert a desert wasteland into the most desirable piece of real estate on the planet. These people whose origins have no common language, racial or ethnic background, yet somehow with the identity or label of Jew, carried throughout the ages, are now firmly established at the centre of the world stage. In some cases there return has come about by standing on ancient prophecies in scripture, and in others, many are ignorant of what being a Jew really means, yet seizing an opportunity to escape the evils of anti-Semitism and start a new life.

- As part of the blossoming fig tree. (Hosea 9:10; Joel 1:7; Matthew 24:32;)

When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.

Christians need to pray for Israel and particularly Jerusalem (Psalm 122.6), and for the conversion of the Jews. Praying that God will remove the veil from their eyes. In Romans Ch’s 9 to 11, Paul clearly states that the temporary spiritual blindness of Israel would be removed following the fullness of the Gentiles. Until such time, in faith the Church should be looking forward & praying to that end!

Christians owe a great debt to the Jews.

Likewise the world owes a similar debt to the Jews who have been the source of so much scientific & medical expertise, as well as cultural & artistic contributions to society.

Without the Jews we would have...

Jesus Christ, a Jew, left the world in ascension glory from the Mount of Olives (Acts 1.11), and likewise will return to the very same spot, (Zech. 14.4;)...

cNot London...Not Washington...Not Moscow...But Jerusalem!!!

The Hatikvah - the National Anthem of Israel
Flag of Israel The words of Israel's national anthem were written as a nine-stanza poem by poet Naftali Herz Imber and were first published in 1876 or 1877 (the exact date is unknown). It served as the anthem of the Zionist Movement at the 18th Zionist Congress in 1933. When the State of Israel was established, the first stanza and refrain were adopted as the national anthem. Until 2004, Hatikva was not officially the national anthem when it was rooted in the "Flag and Emblem Law" of 1949 which then became the "Flag, Emblem, and National Anthem Law, 5709-1949."

Transliteration of Hatikva text:

Kol od balevav penimah,
Nefesh yehudi homiyah,
Ulefa-atei mizrach, kadimah,
Ayin letziyon tsofiyah.
Od lo avdah tikvateinu
Hatikva bat shnot alpayim,
Lihyot am chofshi be-artzeinu,
Eretz tzion, virushalayim.

Translation of the Hatikva:

As long as in the heart within,
The Jewish soul yearns,
And toward the eastern edges, onward,
An eye gazes toward Zion.
Our hope is not yet lost,
The hope that is two-thousand years old,
To be a free nation in our land,
The Land of Zion, Jerusalem.
