The Ten Commandments...& Prophecy
Commandments decreed,
human race does not take heed,
Saints must intercede!
Perhaps one of the most significant & indisputable Signs of the Times also being a precursor to the judgment of the Great Tribulation, is the wanton & universal breaking of the Ten Commandments!
The much quoted point that these are commandments and NOT mere suggestions places a great indictment upon mankind!
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:17-20
Although Christians generally accept that their covenant with God is one of grace and not one of being under the law, it is important to remember that the Lord Jesus Christ said not one jot or tittle of the law will pass away. Christians should with the prompting of the Holy Spirit lead a life glorifying to God and obviously not willfully transgressing these laws, or drifting into the error of antinomianism.
And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
John 1:16-17
In considering the predicted coming judgments upon the planet and the fact that the law, i.e. the Ten Commandments, still stand as a valid yardstick for guidance toward righteousness & as a schoolmaster to convict the sinner. It is appropriate to look at the various ways in which today’s society more than any other in the history of the world are blatantly offending God, causing sins to pile up as high as heaven, bringing correspondingly the aforementioned judgments.
The Commandments...
Of the TEN commandments...
FOUR relate to Mans relationship with God,
& SIX relate to Mans relationship with Man...
& are also summed up fully in Matthew 22:35-40.Exodus 20...
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
Exodus 20:1-19
In closer analysis:
Mans Relationship With God...
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Refers to any object of attention and worship that is put before, and considered more important than God.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
God is to be worshipped in spirit and in truth and man does not require images to enhance this relationship.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Any name that God is known by is to be regarded as Holy and sacred and never to be used in a way that is derogative or insulting.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
The sabbath day is holy dedicated to the Lord, and not to be defiled by inappropriate behaviour but to be used for worship and rest.Mans Relationship With Man...
The commandments can be summed up by the two great commandments:
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:35-40
Also most importantly...
is the New Commandment:A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
John 13:34
During the judgment of the Great Tribulation it is clear that in spite of the continual witnessing of the 144,000 and the Two Witnesses in Jerusalem telling the world of God’s love and desire to see all come to repentance, not all will. In fact it would appear as though the prophecies indicate a majority will continue in their sins, refusing to repent.
Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
Revelation 9:21
- Murders - the tribulation will see the darkest period of genocide in mankind’s history
- Sorceries - this refers to all the forbidden occult practices and includes drug taking
- Fornication - referring of course to all immoral & perverted sexual practices
- Thefts - the Antichrist/Beast will no doubt give license to his followers to claim all properties belonging to citizens who choose not to accept the Mark of the Beast.
Mankind’s darkest hour, marked by the Multitudes in the Valley of Decision, clearly draws a line in the sand requiring a decision, based on choosing God’s standards or the world’s standards, i.e. choosing to follow Jesus Christ or Satan.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua 24:15As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.
Psalms 55:16He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Revelation 22:11Blessed are they that do his commandments...
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Revelation 22:14-17
